Search Engine Optimization” or “SEO” is the combination of strategies, techniques, and tactics used to increase the number of visitors to a site. The goal is to reach a high-ranking placement in the search engine results — also know as SERPs — such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, and others.

You may decide to hire a Search Engine Optimization Agency to take care of your SEO…but be warned this is a big decision. If done properly, it can potentially drive lots of traffic to your website. On the other hand, if not done properly, you run the risk of damaging not only your site but also your reputation. The key reasons why you’ll want to do this is because 63% of consumers use search engines to research information about local companies.

Step 3. Refine internal linking. You will want to do this in order to add value to your site. Your site’s internal linking architecture is a key component of your Small Business SEO strategy. Using a silo architecture is the best way to accomplish this. Silo structured websites are really about linking thematically related pages together. The silos inter-link only at the top level, and aside from that, each silo has pages that link only amongst themselves. This creates a theme that is easily recognized by the search engines, helping you get ranked for the keywords in each silo much easier than randomly linking pages together.

Step 4. Create content with your customer in mind. To elaborate that into some more detail, if you want to get more inbound links and retain customers, you need to write for customers. Humans hate spam, and if they see that your site is only written for the search engines, they will leave and never come back.

Step 5. Write in a personal voice. Moreover, make it personal. By making your voice heard, you’re showcasing your authority in your market, and adding trust to your Small Business SEO toolbox.
